Safety Engineer
DIRECT HIRE opportunity for a Health, Safety & Environmental Engineer in the greater Lansing area. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring the company is in compliance with all Federal and State regulations.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION

In conjunction with Director of Quality, implement and maintain Company policies adhering to local, state and federal environmental health and safety regulation.
Makes recommendations for the design and development of safe/ergonomic work areas and procedures
Responsible for preparing, maintaining and updating environmental procedure manuals
Responsible for the Hazard Communication, Right to Know Program, maintaining MSDSs and updating/maintaining the Program
Develop and maintain a training Program for Environmental, Health and Safety that complies with regulations
Serves as the main contact with all local, federal and state regulatory agencies.
Read and interpret blueprints and mechanical schematic drawings.
Investigate industrial accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine causes and preventive measures
Report or review findings from accident investigations, facilities inspections, or environmental testing
Maintain and apply knowledge of current policies, regulations, and industrial processes
Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance
Conduct or coordinate worker training in areas such as safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment
Review

Interview employers and employees to obtain information about work environments and workplace incidents
Review plans and specifications for construction of new machinery or equipment to determine whether all safety requirements have been met
Compile, analyze, and interpret statistical data related to occupational illnesses and accidents
Interpret safety regulations for others interested in industrial safety such as safety engineer and safety inspectors
Recommend process and product safety features that will reduce employees' exposure to chemical, physical, and biological work hazards
Conduct or direct testing of air quality, noise, temperature, or radiation levels to verify compliance with health and safety regulations
Evaluate adequacy of actions taken to correct health inspection violations
Maintain liaisons with outside organizations such as fire departments, mutual aid societies, and rescue teams, so that emergency responses can be facilitated
Define safety devices requirements for machinery/equipment and direct device installation
Plan and conduct industrial hygiene research
Review processes and equipment for appropriate ergonomic consideration

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
3-5 years proven experience as a Safety Engineer in an automotive Manufacturing Environment
3-5 years proven experience handling Environmental issues
3-5 years proven experience handling Health, Safety & Ergonomic Issues
3-5 years proven experience training a workforce in Environmental, Health & Safety
1-2 years proven experience with ISO14001

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS/CERTIFICATIONS

Bachelor Degree in Industrial Hygiene or Sciences
Proven certification for DEQ and OSHA
Ongoing certification programs regarding regulation changes for DEQ and OSHA
Expert user of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
