Summary:
The Systems Administrator
position
is responsible for the configuration, deployment and management of internal and customer systems being deployed in client datacenters. Performs directed research, analysis, and network support for all facets of the hosting environment and
services
. Provides recommendations on improvements related to performance, hardware/software application analysis and configuration requirements. Additional duties include data migration of customer on premise server applications, and assisting in the development of new products and services.
Functions/
Responsibilities:
o Recommend, purchase, and assemble hardware components for server, firewall, and SAN deployments
o Develop and implement backup, recovery, and DR plans for all critical existing and new systems
o Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software problems in a mixed operating system environment (Microsoft / Linux / Sun / BSD)
o Implement and maintain open web-based platforms and frameworks
o HTML and PHP/MySQL website troubleshooting and minor modification
o Scripting and automation of tasks using Perl, PHP, Python, Bash and others
o Assist in identifying new clients and develop beneficial business relationships
o Pertinent development of internal information and technology systems to further enhance management of new and existing business lines
o Monitor and support critical network elements using state-of-the-art tools and techniques
o Provide knowledgeable assistance and coordination; facilitate efforts with multiple support organizations internally, service providers, and vendors
o Create, update, track, and close trouble
tickets
o Communicate with customers and internal staff at regular intervals to ensure expectations are set and that appropriate attention is being paid to customer requests
o Analyze network and systems
events
to determine (issues) root cause and suggest preventive measures against repeat occurrences
o Survey and review network and server element status and health levels as needed
o Work to develop and/or implement system management tools and processes to improve datacenter capabilities and to ensure appropriate service levels are met for Mean-Time-to-Repair, and other metrics (uptime), which may from time to time be requested, by immediate
supervisor
or management of the company
o Other duties, assistance and assignments of a technical and business nature
Minimum
Qualifications:
Competencies:
o A strong technical background in System Administration on a variety of operating systems including Linux/BSD/Solaris, and Microsoft as deployed in enterprise and hosting environments
o IP Protocols and data network elements with experience in telecommunications a plus
o Experience with Cisco routing protocols highly desirable
o Strong organizational skills
o Highly motivated and self-directed
o Team building with demonstrated ability to direct technically complex projects
o Excellent oral and written communication skills in addition to time management skills
o Previous experience working in a Helpdesk, Systems Administrator, or Network Admin role beneficial
o Knowledge of Virtualization platforms including VMware, XEN and KVM preferred
Education &
Experience: Minimum of 4 years of relevant system admin experience preferred. Minimum of 2 years of IP routing/switching experience desired. Minimum of 1 year working in a helpdesk setting preferred.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
