Position
Summary:
Responsible for various accounting and billing functions related to maintaining customer account records and computing utility bills.
Responsible for working customer disputes, customer refunds, sewer billing, and verifying the validity of daily meter reads.
Also responsible for open and closed account collections, bankruptcy and bad debt processing.
Essential Functions:
Performs basic accounting/bookkeeping and billing functions related to maintaining customer account records on customer information system (UMAX).
Utilizes various computer programs including but not limited to UMAX, Excel, Word, OnBase and Outlook.
Follows detailed procedures.
Compiles and manipulates data related to sales postings and accounts receivable information.
Keeps records of customer interactions and transactions, recording details of inquiries, complaints, and comments, as well as actions taken.
Determines charges for services requested.
Responsible for rate changes per customer request.
Sets up customer collection arrangements in response to requests from customers or to satisfy the need for payment.
Makes collection calls, handles bankruptcy, bad debt, outside collection agency contact, deceased customers, medical alert accounts and other various collection activity.
Required to follow BWL Safety Manual and wear required personal protective equipment.
Attends training for safety awareness or skills improvement as required by supervisor, BWL or governmental agency such as MIOSHA.
Performs other duties as required or directed.
Job Specifications:
High-school diploma or equivalent Basic knowledge of accounting/bookkeeping/billing functions Communicates effectively both orally and in writing Computer skills as demonstrated by standardized testing for the following:
typing (35 WPM), beginning level Microsoft Word and Excel Successful completion of modules in Applied Math, Locating Information, and Reading for Information Ability to create and update procedures as required Ability to cross-train within department tasks Two (2) years accounting/bookkeeping/billing experience strongly preferred CIS experience preferred Customer contact experience preferred Must pass CBR Selection Process Physical Requirements / Working Conditions:
Retrieve data from computerized sources Must have excellent written and oral communication skills Must be able to perform office functions such as electronic filing and retrieving, scanning and copying documents Must be able to operate a computer and business phone system Open office environment with moderate ambient noise levels May occasionally be required to work beyond a normal 40-hour work week (with overtime pay) Why Should You Apply?
