GSN Downstream provides commercial heat treating services primarily to the automotive and truck industry through the forging, cold forming, and foundry suppliers. GSN Downstream provides a variety of heat treat, phosphate coating, shot blast and saw cutting/shearing services. Each facility has the following departments: Production, Quality, and Maintenance.

GSN Downstream is currently seeking a Group Controller for its Lansing, MI facility.

Position Overview:
Directs the financial activities of GSN Downstream Group including but not limited to planning, procurement, and administration. Provide for internal controls to safeguard Company assets and maximize net profitability. Assure compliance to government regulations, generally accepted accounting principles, and external and internal reporting requirements.

Responsibilities:
Establishes and maintains adequate internal controls to safeguard Company assets and maximize profitability.
SOX compliance reviews to insure key controls are achieving intended results.
Provides financial, planning and management systems guidance and oversight to five (5) operating facilities.
Responsible for accurate financial records and the fair presentation of divisional financial and operating information within accepted guidelines and generally accepted accounting principles.
Analyzes variances to forecasts and business plans to insure that each business unit is effectively managing its costs and generating maximum profitability.
Promotes operational efficiencies using metrics which have been identified as Key Performance Indicators (KPI's).
Provides operations management with reports to monitor and measure cost effectiveness at every level. Monthly and year-to-date performance measurement tools are provided.
Assist in short-term and long-term planning with other division and group managers to solidify our competitive edge in the market place.
Meets with customers to develop long-term strategic relationships and to negotiate commercial issues.
Supervise the accounting staff to insure that policies and procedures are being followed and that their output is relevant, accurate and timely.
Trains and develops department employees to maximize cost effectiveness and meet or exceed reporting requirements. Plans annual training program to assure individual and group growth.
Develop and maintain an incentive program to motivate employees and drive continuous improvement while staying cost competitive.
Develop and maintain a product cost system to measure profitability by product and provide sales with a tool to assist in establishing selling prices.
Coordinates energy strategy for natural gas procurement in relation to the natural gas surcharge policy and negotiates key supply contracts (i.e. Natural gas, liquid nitrogen, etc.).
Assist and review major capital project requests to insure they meet financial return requirements and that they fit the overall business strategy.
Responsible for supporting the credit and collection function.
Monitor state laws and pending legislation to seek opportunities to reduce and control government regulated costs.
Promote the Company image in the community by involvement in Company functions and civic and non-profit activities.








Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance required (plus CPA or CMA strongly preferred)

years of related experience
Advanced MS Excel (i.e. pivot tables)
Basic understanding and working knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX)
Intermediate skills in MS Word, Access and PowerPoint
Strong analytical and problem solving skills required
Ability to convert database information into an analysis to support decision making
Strong ability to motivate, inspire and develop others
Ability to travel approximately 10-15% of the time

Preferred Skills/
Experience:
CPA or CMA strongly preferred
Experience working as a controller for an industrial or manufacturing company preferred
Experience supporting multiple sites within one organization
Database experience (ERP or MRP) a plus
