Ranked one of the top 25 business programs in the country, The Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University is seeking an enthusiastic and energetic, results-oriented individual to join its highly successful fundraising team as the Associate Director of Development. This is an amazing opportunity for an experienced fundraiser who thrives on moving prospects strategically through the pipeline to secure major gifts which MSU defines as commitments of $100,000 and more. As the College readies itself for MSU's next capital campaign, the Associate Director will be an integral member of a team that focuses attention on an alumni base of 70,000, and - more specifically - on the more than 10,000 prospects with known or suspected major gift capacity.
Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Development, the Associate Director will manage a portfolio of 150-200 major donor prospects. Further, the Associate Director will employ an aggressive, strategic moves management program, averaging 15-20 face to face strategic visits per month and 2 to 4 solicitations per month. The Associate Director of Development will assume fund raising leadership across multiple geographic territories, requiring extensive travel, as well as provide fund raising leadership for several departments within the College. Approximately 25% of the Associate Director's time will be devoted to out-of-state travel in order to maximize the fundraising program for the Broad College of Business.
The Associate Director will serve as a consultant, working closely with the dean, associate deans, department chairs, and key volunteers to identify funding opportunities and advise on effective development techniques including the identification, engagement, solicitation, and stewardship of the College's prospects. The Associate Director will play a pivotal role in developing the case for support, identifying and refining funding priorities - including endowment support, identifying prospects, and building a strong volunteer base in anticipation of MSU's next capital campaign.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
Conduct research to identify potential donors to the college and determine, either by donor grouping or individual donors, specific interests in the college programs.
Match pertinent needs with interests of donor groups and individual donors and prepare solicitations restricted to meet particular needs.
In collaboration with the Senior Director of Development, design and implement programs and events (on and off campus) to promote constituency development (events and visits) and ensure proper, strategic follow-up.
Advise on communication strategies and content to support fundraising efforts.
Establish either contact with potential donors through direct personal mail, telephone contact, and especially one: one visits to interpret needs of the college and to promote a level of understanding conducive to giving.
Serve as a liaison officer between the College and donors and potential donors to ensure that such information and service as may be desired is provided to the full extent permitted by University policy, rules and regulations.
Serve as a consultant to donors on the tax advantage of various types of gifts.
Develop proposals, appeal letters and other supportive material for cultivation and solicitation purposes, with focus on gifts of $100,000 or more.
Plan and host campus visits of donor or potential donors or their representatives.
Related Duties
Serve as a fund raising consultant and advisor to college personnel, as necessary and appropriate.
Attend workshops and professional clinics to increase understanding and sharpen skills related to development and major gift activity.
Assist in planning and directing the College's campaign activities as MSU readies for its next comprehensive capital campaign.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree.
Five years experience in professional fund raising, public relations, marketing or a related field or three years of progressively responsible professional experience in higher education Development, public relations or a related field.
Excellent writing and communication skills.
Working knowledge of tax laws affecting charitable giving.
Travel involving automobile.
